Parenting class begins Jan. 12

The next session of Kamalama, a parenting education course offered by the Neighborhood Place of Kona, will be held from Jan. 12 to March 15. Classes are held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Kamalama introduces traditional Hawaiian values that reflect universal positive parenting principles and concepts of living pono, or morally correct. Classes focus on the principle that parents or caregivers are their children’s first teachers and emphasize the important responsibility of teaching and role-modeling proper values and behaviors to keiki. Kamalama is a 10-week course with weekly classes of two-hour sessions. A certificate of completion is awarded to those who attend and participate in each class. There is no cost to attend.
